Whether you’re already feeling festive or ready to get in the Christmas spirit, the songs below – some of my faves – will definitely do the trick. Or, if you’re my husband, just induce some eye rolling. But whatever. Christmas music is great. Sing with me!
First up: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with Martina McBride. This album was one of our favorites in college, and my roomie and I played it nonstop during finals week.
This Straight No Chaser mashup always makes me smile and gets my toes a tappin'. "I had Christmas down in AaaaaFRICA!"
I was introduced to Winter Snow a few years ago during our church’s (and my employer at the time) Christmas production. It’s a little non-traditional, but it’s just lovely.
Oh man. I loved Karen Carpenter when I was little. I had these plastic-backed paperdolls, and they took turns being Karen Carpenter and Amy Grant and giving concerts in my living room. Ahem. Anyway. Merry Christmas, Darling.
If you’ve never heard the story behind the Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 song, read it here. The melody is haunting yet hopeful.
And it’s just not Christmas without Bing. This arrangement with Peace on Earth by David Bowie brought genres and generations together for a few special minutes.
And I’ll leave you with a modern remix of the same song. The Pentatonix have been blowing up the internets with this one this year. PA RUM PA PUM PUM!
