Windy City Weekend

One part weekend getaway, one part anniversary celebration and one part Southwest Airlines sale plus a good dose of unseasonably awesome weather adds up to a great weekend in Chicago for Team Wastell.

We flew in Thursday evening and had dinner with Andrew & Sara at their neighborhood pub.  Turns out cider goes pretty darn well with a grilled cheese & avocado sandwich.  Good food and good company.  Love those two.  Plus, they let us stay with them.

Since Chad lived in Chicago for many years and I’ve visited the city several times, we rarely do touristy things when we’re in Chicago.  However, since we didn’t have anything planned for Friday, we took the train downtown and poked around Michigan Ave and made our way to the Christmas windows at the old Marshall Fields building.

I really love Christmas.  And that Tiffany ceiling – hello.  Also, we found the perfect slogan for Team Wastell at a restaurant downtown:  Cheese, Swine and Wine.  Excellent.

Andrew & Sara hosted a Saint Andrew’s Day party that evening with a dozen or so people that we know.  I’ve said it before, but I absolutely love how Chad’s friends have welcomed me into their community.  Such great people.  Andrew’s Scottish flag and scotch collection were on hand for the celebration.

We looked good.  As we do.

Sunday afternoon Chad and I took advantage of the sunshine and went for a long walk around Sara & Andrew’s neighborhood and wandered down to Southport for lunch, then over to Wrigleyville.
