I gave myself a challenge to run 31 miles before I turn 31, and guess what? I’m more than halfway there. I’ve been running in the mornings a few times a week with a friend, and turns out, running on the trails in beautiful morning sunshine sure beats the heck out of a treadmill at the gym. I still don’t like it, and I still think the runner’s high is a total sham, but I like the fact that I can run 3.5 miles (so far – slowly working up to more) without falling over. Just 12.5 miles to go to meet my 31 before 31 goal.
I started checking the blog A Holy Experience about a year ago. Ann’s writing is poetry, beauty, prayer. It speaks to the core of my soul. I dug into her One Thousand Gifts book several weeks ago, thinking it would be my May book of the month, but turns out, it is my June book and also maybe my July book. Her words are powerful, and I’m finding the desire to read them slowly, to savor and wrestle with them a while before moving on to the next words. Maybe one of these days I’ll take her dare to count the joys I’m given, to live the eucharisteo.
